Parker Posey to Star in Untitled NBC Comedy Pilot

Parker has been cast in an untitled comedy pilot for NBC, which would mark her return to a regular television series since the short-lived FOX sitcom The Return of Jezebel James in 2008.

According to Deadline:

Posey is set as the female lead in the untitled DJ Nash comedy, about a son who idolizes his blind father and is bemused by his mother’s (Posey) newfound adolescence who watches his family come closer together post-divorce.

The article also mentions that this will be single-camera and Jason Bateman is an executive producer.

"Price Check" Trailer and Release Dates

IFC Films announced today that they have acquired the North American rights to “Price Check.” The Parker Posey and Eric Mabius film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, will be released theatrically November 16th, but released earlier on video-on-demand on October 11th. Along with this announcement comes an actual trailer for the film.

Parker Joins Cast of "Grace of Monaco"

It was announced yesterday that Parker has joined the cast of Grace of Monaco. The film, set in the 1960s, is the story of Grace Kelly (played by Nicole Kidman) and her involvement in the tax law disputes between her husband, Prince Rainer III of Monaco, and the French President Charles De Gaulle. Parker will play Madge Tivey-Faucon, who is described as Kelly’s “scheming lady-in-waiting.” Other cast members include Tim Roth, Frank Langella, Paz Vega and Milo Ventimiglia.

The film, directed by Le Vie En Rose director Olivier Dahan, doesn’t have a set date for release yet but IMDb lists it as sometime in 2014.

A new promo short for the Emmy Awards features Parker Posey as a character named JA,N (“Just Act, Naturally”) teaching a class on how to give a proper Emmy acceptance speech.

The Emmy’s even went so far as to give JA,N her own tumblr blog at http://justact-naturally.com/.

TVLine broke the news last night that Parker will be guest-starring on the second season premiere of FOX’s New Girl to air September 25th.

The indie goddess, who garnered raves for her recent arc as Louis C.K.’s unhinged love interest on FX’s Louie, will play a “shot girl” at a party to celebrate the removal of Schmidt’s penis cast.

Parker Posey Film Festival in London

London is not only the host of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games right now, but will also be host to the very first Parker Posey Film Festival this September!

On September 15th, the festival will be showing The Daytrippers, Best in Show, Scream 3, The House of Yes and will end the night with the UK premiere of Party Girl, to be shown in 35mm. I can only imagine the struggle it must have been for the festival directors to select which five films to show, but I think they’ve made some excellent choices here.

Tickets are not yet on sale, so I would check their site for more info and be sure to follow them on twitter at @ParkerPoseyFF for up-to-date information.

Sundance Films of Parker Posey's Past

Every day of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival I spotlighted a film of Parker’s Sundance past on twitter by adding new credit pages to the site, or updating existing ones with new or larger pictures, info, quotes and video. With the festival now coming to a close, I thought it would be good to gather all those links as a sort of retrospect of Parker’s Sundance past:

I’ve added quite a few new credit pages as well, including some very early appearances, such as “Description of a Struggle,” a short film Parker did in 1993 based on a Franz Kafka story of the same title; 1994’s HBO special “Tracey Takes on New York”; and the Hal Hartley shorts “Iris” and “Opera No. 1,” all of which have video of Parker’s performances.

Despite all these new additions, there’s still a lot of credits without their own pages on the site, and I plan to add a new one each week until they’re all done. So, peruse what’s available now, hope you enjoy, and keep your eyes peeled for even newer additions coming soon.

“I was looking forward to playing a strong woman and a powerful person because it had been a long time since I had,” Posey says. “And I wasn’t feeling particularly strong during that time because it was tough times. I wasn’t getting a lot of work since the independent scripts that used to come to me were going to bigger celebrities. So in my off time, I watched, observed, talked with people, and waited, hoping that someone came along and I could bring my point of view.”

A new interview for The Daily Beast has popped up online. Despite having a few factual errors (Time dubbed her “Queen of the Indies” in 1997, not 1996; it’s only been three years, not five, since she had a movie screen at Sundance with Spring Breakdown; and Party Girl came out in 1995, not 1994…but who’s nit-picking?), it’s a good read about the festival, Price Check, the troubles of being labeled an independent queen, and even reflecting on her Dazed and Confused character Darla:

“I always thought Darla would move to San Francisco. I just always saw her there. Darla thrives on the drama, but I think she’s aware of the drama and is playing at it. Susan is seducing people into her fantasy world, so she’s more of a Svengali-type.” Posey pauses. “I think Darla is probably [dramatic] when she’s home, too, just always acting out.”

Upcoming Parker Posey Projects

Parker revealed in the “TimesTalk” chat that she will be filming an episode of the FX Louis C.K. show “Louie” next month, as well as returning to the stage this spring. While she doesn’t specifically mention what production, she does say it’s a Will Eno play at the Yale Repertory Theatre, which leads me to believe it is The Realistic Joneses, which she’s been reportedly attached to as far back as November 2010. No cast information has been revealed but tickets are already on sale at the Yale Repertory box office.

Along with her Sundance film Price Check, there’s still quite a few projects scheduled to be coming out this year. The Love Guide and the HBO movie “Hemingway and Gellhorn” are scheduled for a spring release, as well as a sweeps-week return appearance on “The Good Wife.”

Three other films listed as having completed filming but no release date are Highland Park, which seems to have been completed for awhile now; And Now a Word from Our Sponsor, co-starring Bruce Greenwood and Callum Blue; and the recently finished HairBrained, from writer/director Billy Kent, whose previous film was Parker’s The OH in Ohio.

Unfortunately, she also mentions in the chat that she has no idea what is going on with the new Christopher Guest movie, that was first announced way back in September 2010, and that everyone is just waiting on Guest.

Six movies, two television spots, and a stage production. Sounds like 2012 is getting off to a busy start.

Parker Posey joins Joseph Gordon-Levitt for hitRECord at Sundance

Tonight, Joseph Gordon-Levitt brought his hitRECord production to the Eccles Center at the Sundance Film Festival, where he was eventually joined by Parker Posey for a discussion about what is “independence” in terms of movies and being an individual. Later on, they were joined by actor Brady Corbet and recited a bit from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and recorded it live on stage for further use on the hitRECord site.

The show was streamed live on the Sundance website, but in case you missed it, managed to get 14 screen captures of the event and uploaded them to the newly created hitRECord page.

Movies are supposed to be an exercise of compassion, intelligence, and humanity. And if those movies aren’t made, then our culture will suffer. If it’s all about money, and the art isn’t going to be supported, then places like Sundance will cease to be a platform for them. It’s such a different time right now. We’ve yet to see what that looks like for cinema.

That quote comes from a great new interview with Parker over at the Sundance website. This, along with another brief interview over at Variety today, is along the same lines of recent interviews of Parker showing some frustration towards major movie studios and how indie movies seem to be back on path with being an art form.

Of course, all these interviews are happening because Parker is at the Sundance Film Festival promoting her new movie Price Check, which premiered tonight. A poster for the movie has finally surfaced:
